Sean Desjardins drove in the lone run of the day for the Saints as the St. Lawrence University baseball team fell 11-1 in game three of their series at Ithaca College on Saturday morning.
St. Lawrence fell to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in Liberty League play, while the Bombers improved to 9-7 overall and 3-0 in league action.
Ithaca gained a 4-0 lead in the bottom half of the second inning when a leadoff hit by pitch spiraled for the Saints. A pair of two-out singles would score their first run before McDermott cleared a bases-loaded situation with a double to right field.
The Bombers extended their lead by scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third, then plated two more in the fourth to take the 7-0 advantage.
The Scarlet and Brown scored their run in the top of the fifth where
Willie Landman started the inning with a leadoff single to center field. Two Saints reached on a fielder's choice and
Mike Siano would find first on a walk, leading to Desjardins' first and third spot. The third baseman singled back to the pitcher on the first pitch scoring a run.
In the final two innings, Ithaca scored four more runs to put the game away.
Joshua Polumbo got the start on the bump pitching three innings and striking out two.
Brenden O'Neil and
Brendan Karadenes combined to pitch the next three in relief before
JJ Humenay finished the contest.
St. Lawrence will return home and begin preparing for another road Liberty League series next weekend. On Friday, March 28, the Saints will head to RIT for a lone game before playing in a doubleheader on Saturday in Rochester.
