St. Lawrence University Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreation is proud to announce the selection of six individuals and three teams into its Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2025: Ross Molloy '98, Keith Merrill '06, James McAvity '07, Dan McElvaine '08, President Emeritus Dan Sullivan '65, and retired Director of Athletics Margie Strait M'73 earn the honor as individuals, while the 2008, 2009 and 2010 women's rowing teams will be inducted as teams. This class will be inducted as part of Reunion Weekend on Friday, May 30, 2025.
These inductees have left an indelible mark on St. Lawrence's athletic program, and as a result, the institution is thrilled to honor their accomplishments with this lifelong distinction.

"This class represents a blend of dedicated Laurentians who have not only displayed a high level of commitment but have also significantly elevated our programs to new heights. We truly look forward to celebrating their outstanding contributions as they enter the Hall of Fame this spring."
Ross Molloy '98 – Men's Tennis
Ross Molloy, a versatile athlete, captained St. Lawrence's tennis team to national recognition, earning a top-30 ranking and multiple conference honors. His leadership on the court translated to a successful career in media, where he now serves as a senior executive at CBS Sports. Molloy credits his student-athlete experience with shaping his leadership style and work ethic, which have been instrumental in his professional growth.
Keith Merrill '06 – Men's Squash
Keith Merrill was a cornerstone of St. Lawrence's squash program, earning first-team All-Conference honors all four years and leading the team to its first Liberty League title in 2006. He held multiple program records at graduation, including most wins and highest winning percentage in a season. Merrill credits his student-athlete experience with teaching him discipline and teamwork, which have shaped his career in finance.
James McAvity '07 – Men's Squash
James McAvity began his St. Lawrence career strong being named the Liberty League's first-ever Rookie of the Year during the 2003-04 season. McAvity, a four-year member of the All-Liberty League team, won two championships with Chris Abplanalp and the Saints, taking home the title in the 2005-06, and 2006-07 seasons. At graduation, his 47 wins were the all-time Saints record. McAvity has channeled his competitive spirit into entrepreneurship, founding three companies.
Daniel McElvaine '08 – Men's Squash
Daniel McElvaine made an immediate impact in his first-year season, earning both Liberty League Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors in 2004-05. A four-time All-Liberty League selection, he repeated as Player of the Year in 2005-06, leading St. Lawrence and head coach Chris Abplanalp to their first-ever Liberty League Championship. The team successfully defended its title the following year during his junior season. By the end of his collegiate career, McElvaine had compiled a 58-25 record and held the program's all-time wins record until the 2017-18 season. A Summa Cum Laude graduate and Phi Beta Kappa inductee, he has since built a successful career spanning law, finance, and technology.
President Emeritus Dan Sullivan '65 – Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Baseball & Administrator
Dan Sullivan, a multi-sport athlete, excelled in soccer, basketball, and baseball at St. Lawrence, earning MVP honors in soccer. A Phi Beta Kappa member, Sullivan returned to St. Lawrence as its president in 1996, championing the integration of athletics and academics. He held this position until 2009, with his leadership having transformed the University's athletic programs, emphasizing student-athlete success both on and off the field. President Sullivan's legacy continues to inspire the St. Lawrence community.
Margie Strait M'73 – Administrator
Margie Strait, a legendary administrator and coach, elevated St. Lawrence athletics by adding seven new teams and transitioning women's hockey to Division I. As Athletic Director, she oversaw transformative projects, including the construction of Robie Squash Center, Newell Field House, the St. Lawrence Boathouse, and Leckonby Stadium. Strait's commitment to student-athlete success earned her the distinct national award of NACDA/Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year in 2013.
2008, 2009 & 2010 Women's Rowing Teams

Nick Hughes, the three teams from 2008-2010 dominated the Liberty League, earning three straight trips to the NCAA Championships. This group produced three All-Americans, countless All-Academic accolades and multiple Boat of the Year awards. They remain the gold standard to which St. Lawrence rowers compare themselves.
