Men's Tennis Falls 5-2 to Skidmore in Liberty League First Round

The Saints took an early 2-1 lead in doubles play, but the lead would not hold as the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Skidmore in the first round of the Liberty League Championships on Friday morning at the Reis Tennis Center at Cornell University.

St. Lawrence saw their season end at 8-11, while Skidmore improved to 6-11 and advanced in the tournament.

The Saints took an early lead taking wins in the first and third doubles spots.

At one, Adam Heilbronner and Broderick Pinto took on Nika Mori and Harrison Gradin and won 8-3. In the third spot, John Hill-Edgar and Edvin Strandberg teamed up to defeat Yuval Goodman and Fletcher King 8-4.

The Thoroughbreds righted their ship with wins at five, four, and three singles to take a 4-2 lead in the match. The final win came at one where Louis Bourn knotted up his match with Heilbronner at 1-1 after falling 6-3 in the first set. Bourn took a 6-1 win in set three to take the match.

Pinto was up 4-6, 6-3, 4-3 in the two spot when the play was stopped, while Strandberg was up 3-6, 7-5, 5-1 at number six.
