The Saints would outscore the Cardinals in the second half, but came up one goal short in the end at the No. 5 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team fell 11-10 to St. John Fisher on Sunday afternoon in the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.

The Saints saw their season end at 15-5, while the Cardinals will advance with a 15-7 record.

Seniors Ben Hutchinson and Judge Murphy led the way offensively with six and five points respectively. Hutchinson finished with five goals and an assist, while Murphy had three goals and two helpers. Bobby Wells was a facilitator for the Scarlet and Brown with four assists.

Paddy Condon led the way with ten ground balls, followed by Daniel Mahoney with five. Condon also went 15-25 in the dot for the day.

The Cardinals took control early in the game scoring the first three goals of the contest before Condon broke up the run with a solo effort with 53 seconds left. Fisher scored once more with 13 seconds left for a 4-1 lead after 15.

St. Lawrence brought the score to within one early in the second quarter with goals from Murphy and Hutchinson but were met by a four-goal run from the opposition. Murphy scored twice more in the final three minutes of the half to make it 8-5 at the turn.

The Scarlet and Brown gained traction in the third scoring three of the four goals. Hutchinson struck pay dirt twice, while Cam Croasdaile earned a tally off a Wells dish.

"Really proud of the effort today," said head coach Mike Mahoney. "It was two good teams that battled hard and unfortunately we came up just short."

The game was tight late with both teams playing lockdown defense. The Saints tallied a man up goal with 24 seconds on the clock to make it 11-10 but could not find the equalizer in the waning seconds.

Michael Marinello came up with 15 saves in the effort, and the Saints held a 49-40 edge in shots.

St. Lawrence also had the 33-21 edge in ground balls, and a 16-9 faceoff mark.

"This has been a fantastic group of young men to work with," Mahoney added. "They care deeply about each other and they were fully committed to the process throughout the entire year. I am extremely proud of them and appreciate all that they have done for Saints Lacrosse."
