The No. 14 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team won its fifth straight game as they defeated SUNY Geneseo 16-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Hall-Leet Stadium.Â
Ben Hutchinson (5G, 2A) and
Judge Murphy (4G, 3A) led the Scarlet and Brown with seven points apiece, while
Daniel Mahoney scored one goal and assisted on two others.
Zack Corsi,
Ted Wilson,
Ben Kniskern,
Cam Croasdaile,
Carter Flanagan and
Bobby Wells also scored for the Saints.

Both
Charlie Miele and
Lucas Podvey picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers for the Saints, while
Alex Bechard picked up three and caused two turnovers.
Paddy Condon went 14-for-19 at the faceoff circle and picked up a team-best 10 ground balls, while
Brendan Brigham went 3-for-5.

The Saints started out hot, as they outscored Geneseo 9-1 over the first two periods, starting off with four straight goals from Wells, Kniskern and two from Murphy in the first quarter of play. The Knights scored the first goal of the second off the stick of Kevin Mouton, but St. Lawrence continued their dominant first half with five straight goals to close the half.

The Saints also tallied four man-up goals in the first 30 minutes of play.

The third quarter saw goals from Murphy, Corsi, Mahoney and two from Hutchinson, as the Saints outscored the Knights 4-1 to build a 13-2 lead heading into the final frame.

SUNY Geneseo scored three goals in the fourth but were never able to overcome the early deficit. Hutchinson added his second man-up goal of the game, while Flanagan closed the game with his second of the season.

"I was really happy with how we were work-man-like, especially in the first half," said head coach
Mike Mahoney. "Good defensive stops, efficient clears and productive offensive possessions. We got some nice production from the attack, but just as importantly other guys contributed on the scoresheet. It is a quick turnaround to get right back at it on Saturday."
Five different members of the Knights squad scored, while Josh Knapp picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Michael Marinello recorded the win between the pipes for the Saints with eight saves, while
Andrew Vona made two. Wes Ralph made 11 stops for the Knights.
St. Lawrence outshot Geneseo 51-29, including 28-15 in shots on goal. The Saints also picked up 50 ground balls, to the Knights' 22. SLU finished 5-for-7 on the man-up, while Geneseo went 2-for-5.
With the win, the Saints improved to 5-0 on the season, while SUNY Geneseo fell to 2-2.
The Saints will make another trip back to Rochester, as they take on Nazareth on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
