LaPlaca, Evans Lead Saints to 18-4 Win at Bard

First-year Jessica LaPlaca scored four goals, while senior Liz Evans recorded a hat trick and an assist to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team to an 18-4 win over Bard in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.

First-year Phoebe Spaeth also notched a hat trick for the Scarlet and Brown, while Kiera Dodd and Ashley Mudd scored twice. Bella Hillman, Caroline Hamilton, Ellie Camp and Kelsey Roth also scored for the Saints. Dodd also picked up a team-best six ground balls, caused one turnover and won four draw controls, while LaPlaca picked up three ground balls, caused two turnovers and won two draws.

The Saints started out hot outscoring Bard 9-2 in the first quarter of play. Spaeth tallied back-to-back goals to open scoring, before capping the scoring in the first quarter with a goal with 55 seconds to play.

St. Lawrence continued their strong play outscoring Bard 3-0 in the second quarter. Camp scored a short-handed goal, while goals from Evans and Dodd gave the Scarlet and Brown a 12-2 advantage at halftime.

The Saints held the raptors to two goals in the second half, one in the third and one in the fourth, while Roth scored her first collegiate goal for the Saints in the fourth.

Four different players scored for the Raptors, while Embrey Emerson scored once, picked up two ground balls, caused two turnovers and won three draw controls.

Courtney Lynn made three saves in the win for the Saints, while Lexie Blackburn finished with six for Bard.

St. Lawrence outshot Bard 31-9, including 24-7 in shots on goal. The Saints finished a near perfect 12-for-13 on the clear, picked up 28 ground balls to Bard's 10 and went 3-for-5 on free-position shots.

With the win, the Saints improved to 2-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Bard fell to 1-8 and 0-4 overall.

The Saints face a week of ranked opponents, as they return home to take on No. 1 Middlebury on Tuesday, April 2 at 5:30 p.m., before hosting William Smith and Ithaca on Friday and Saturday.
