Moolman and David Combine for Two Doubles Wins as Men’s Tennis Splits

The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team showcased strong combinations along with focused individual play but split its two matches with Huntingdon College and Franklin Pierce University, Wednesday morning, as the team continued its spring break tour in Orlando, Fla.

After the day, St. Lawrence stands at 6-4 on the year.

In the first matchup of the day, St. Lawrence used a dominant display across the board to earn a 9-0 sweep over Huntingdon.

The doubles were controlled by the Saints, showcasing an impressive level of chemistry, as the team quickly built a 3-0 lead headed into singles matches.

In the number one spot, Adam Heilbronner and Broderick Pinto earned an 8-2 victory over Lane Young and Owen Wheelock while Ben Moolman and Jake David continued the Saint's roll with an impressive 8-1 win over Zach Cox and Sydney Frazier in the number two spot.  Edvin Strandberg and John Hill-Edgar rounded out the results in the division in the number three spot, with an 8-3 win over Cameron Reed and Lawson Pearson.

Singles play continued in much of the same fashion as St. Lawrence continued to keep the Hawks penned back and managed to control all spots, 1-6. In the number one spot, Cole Hamilton earned two 6-2 set wins en route to his first win of the day while Aiden Baracao put together two sets of 6-1 and 6-0 to defeat Wheelock in the number two spot. In the number three spot, Will de Chabert supplied another win for the Saints' cause with set wins of 6-3 and 6-3 as Bobby Tremont posted an impressive outing with two 6-1 set wins over Frazier.

In the number 5 spot, David earned his second win of the day with 6-0 and 6-2 set wins over Reed while MJ Chaho controlled the number 6 spot with 6-2 and 6-4 set wins to wrap of the Saints sweep of the day opener.

In the evening matchup, St. Lawrence struggled to gain traction as they dropped a 7-2 decision to Franklin Pierce University.

Moolman and David combined for their second victory of the day in the number two doubles spot, grinding out a 6-4 win over Preston Gordon and Orlando Guerrero for the Saints' lone doubles triumph.

In the singles matchups, Strandberg snuffed out the Ravens' bid for a sweep, defeating Ethan Hall in the number 6 spot, with scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

The Scarlet and Brown close out their Florida trip Thursday, as they face Eastern Florida State College at 11 a.m. before returning to the North Country for Liberty League play.
