Saints Get Into Liberty League Win Column With Victory Over Skidmore to Close Out 2024

Adam Dudzinski had 17 points and Gavin Macaulay had a career-high eight assists as the St. Lawrence men's basketball team beat the Skidmore Thoroughbreds 68-51 Saturday at Burkman Gymnasium.

With the win, the Saints are 5-2 overall and earn their first Liberty League victory of the season. 

The shooting from the Thoroughbreds was prolific in the beginning of the first half and they quickly doubled up the Saints 14-7 less than five minutes into the game. After this, St. Lawrence was much better defensively and eventually got the lead 21-20 thanks to a jumper from Andrew Cowan at the midway point of the first half. 

The Thoroughbreds retook the lead 25-24 with six minutes remaining, but the Scarlet and Brown didn't allow Skidmore to score the rest of the half. The rest of the way, the Saints got two points from Chris Downs and four from Dudzinski to earn a 30-25 lead going into halftime. 

In the beginning of the second half, the Saints continued to hold a one to two possession lead, until Gavin Macaulay drained a jumper and Troy McPherson had a three pointer, which gave St. Lawrence a 44-35 lead with 12:11 to go. The Saints remained strong on both ends of the floor for the rest of the game eventually getting the lead up to double figures off of free throws by Alexi Twahili with 9:15 left. Later in the half, the Saints went on a 10-1 run to get their lead up to 20 with just under five minutes left, and went on to win by a 17-point margin. 



Gavin Macaulay also had eight points to go along with the aforementioned eight assists. Dan Anderson had eight points as well as three assists. Cowan had six points, three assists, and a team-high six rebounds. The Saints had 18 assists on 21 made field goals on their season high 68 points as a team in addition to holding Skidmore to 29 per cent shooting. 

The Saints will have a couple of weeks off before facing Nichols College on the road, Sunday, December 29 in a non-conference battle.
