Adam Dudzinski's 24 points and strong team defense led to the St. Lawrence men's basketball team to a 61-49 win on the road over the Geneseo State Knights Saturday afternoon in Geneseo, N.Y.
The Saints close out their slate of games in November with a 3-1 record.
The beginning of the first half was low scoring between the two teams, but with the Saints leading 6-4, nine straight points from the Knights made the score 13-6 in favor of Geneseo with 12:41 left.
Shortly after this, the Saints went on a run of their own, scoring 10 straight points to take a 21-15 lead with 4:14 remaining. Dudzinski had seven of these points and
Brayden Shepardson had three.
After a three-pointer by Geneseo brought the game to one possession, 24-21 with three minutes left in the half, but the Scarlet and Brown closed out the half scoring the last seven points to command a 31-21 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Knights cut the Saints lead to four points after an 8-0 run made the score 40-36 with 12:40 left. However, the Saints defense didn't allow anything easy in the next few minutes, and eventually, a three-pointer by Dudzinski with 7:37 left expanded the Saints lead back to double digits 51-40. The Knights continued to struggle offensively for the late game, and the Saints offense was enough to overpower Geneseo, leading to their 61-49 victory.
In addition to Dudzinski's points, he also led the Saints with six rebounds and four steals.
Dan Anderson had nine points and five rebounds, both of which were good for second on the team.
Trey Syroka led the Scarlet and Brown with four assists in his first game of the season returning from a knee injury.
As a squad, the Saints shot 50 per cent from the field, their highest mark of the season, and held the Knights to 38 per cent shooting.
The Saints will next face off against the SUNY Poly Wildcats at home on Tuesday, December 3 in their final home non-conference matchup of the year.
