Men's Soccer Quartet Named CSC Academic All-District

St. Lawrence University men's soccer players George Charalambous, Henry Brown, Baker Diaz, and Nicholas Petrone were named Academic All-District selections by the CSC (College Sports Communicators), as announced by the organization on Tuesday.

The quartet qualified for the honor by having at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average, sophomore academic standing or higher, and participating in at least 50% of the team's contests while serving as a key contributor to the team's success in 2024.

Out of the four, Brown was selected as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced December 10, 2024.

A senior Data Science major from Nicosia, Cyprus, George Charalambous played and started in 17 games for the Scarlet and Brown in 2024. The goalkeeper posted a 9-1-6 record and was unbeaten in the last 15 games of his senior campaign. Charalambous was top-three in the Liberty League in goals against average (.769 | 3rd), shutouts (8 | T-1st), save percentage (.867 | 3rd), and saves (85 | 1st).

A sophomore forward from Winter Park, Fla., Brown emerged as the Liberty League's top player this season scoring 12 goals through 17 games and had an assist for 25 points. His 12 goals put him in a tie for sixth in the St. Lawrence record book for goals in a season alongside Brendan Gorman '12, who scored 12 in 2009, and Dana Hollingsworth '77, who accomplished the feat in 1976. The sophomore was a First Team selection and was named the league's Player of the Year.

A sophomore defender from Brooklyn, N.Y., Baker Diaz, who burst onto the scene as an honorable mention selection during his first year in Canton, proved he was one of, if not the best defender in the league with his sophomore campaign which was capped with being named First Team All-League. The defender scored his first two goals of his career, with one being a game-winner, and added an assist on the offensive end.

A sophomore midfielder from Saddle Brook, N.J., Nicholas Petrone had a breakout year from the midfield with a goal and four helpers and was named to the Liberty League's Second Team.
