Hehl scored her first goal of the season, and three other Saints scored to power the sixth-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 4-1 win over RIT on Friday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.
With the win, the Saints improved to 6-3-0, while RIT fell to 5-3-1.
Hehl picked off the puck at the RIT blue line and went top shelf for her first goal of the season to break the ice and give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the first period.
At the end of one, the Saints held onto their 1-0 lead and led 18-6 in shots on goal.
St. Lawrence sent in a flurry of shots on goal in the second period, building a 4-0 lead over the Tigers.
Just one minute and 17 seconds into the second period,
Taylor Lum capitalized a rebound scramble in front of Sarah Coe to make it 2-0.
Kennedy Wilson picked up the puck in the neutral zone and left a drop pass for
Sarah Marchand, Marchand found Lum, who buried it home.
About a minute and a half later,
Abby Hustler fed
Aly McLeod in the slot and McLeod back handed a shot past Coe for the 3-0 advantage.
Capping the scoring for the Saints was Marchand, who picked up her second point of the afternoon to make it 4-0.
Melissa Jefferies sent a shot in from the point right to Marchand on the doorstep.
After two periods, St. Lawrence led 4-0 and 28-15 in shots on goal.
At 5:25 of the third, the Tigers tallied their lone goal of the game, as Bronwyn Khangsar beat Emma-Sofie Nordström blocker side for the 4-1 final.
"Good strong performance and effort from our team today," said head coach Chris Wells. "We had an early power play to get some momentum and we kept the pressure on. RIT had some real good chances to make it 1-0, but Emma was on top of her game to keep them off the scoreboard until we could get one in."
"We have been playing well in spurts this season and was happy with how we were able to string some shifts together at the end of the first and beginning of the second. That was the difference as we put two quick ones away on some great efforts and nice plays, Wells added."
Nordström stopped 22 shots for the Saints, while Coe made 24 and was relieved by Brenna McNamara, who made five.
St. Lawrence finished with a 33-23 edge in shots on goal. Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play.
"RIT has been very resilient this year within games and in second games of weekends, so we will expect to get another good effort tomorrow at 1."
Both teams will meet again tomorrow at the Gene Polisseni Center for game two of the weekend series at 1 p.m.
