A balanced offensive effort led to a bounce back win for the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team Saturday night. They wrapped up their weekend swing in the Hudson Valley with a 59-48 win over Bard.
The win brought the Saints back into a winning record for their conference schedule, improving the mark to 3-2. Their overall record sits at 4-6.
With the weekend split, the Saints reached their previously established goal for the road trip, according to head coach
Dan Roiger.
"Our goal is to at least get a split on the road every weekend," said Roiger. It wasn't our best performance, but we spent a lot of emotional and physical energy yesterday and the tank was half empty today. We got good performances from several players and that was enough to carry us through."
Those individual performances were led by
Elizabeth Flynn, who checked in with a double-double after recording a team-high 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Jackie Malley had 11 points of her own, while
Norah Niesz,
Cam Roberts and
Hannah Van Dyke had seven points each. Van Dyke also had six boards.
The only time the two teams were level was in the first few minutes of the game, after Bard made it 2-2 early. Shortly thereafter, the Scarlet and Brown established a lead via a 6-0 run and never looked back. Their largest lead was 21 points before Bard put up a good fourth quarter to make it an 11-point win for the Saints.
The Saints were strong in the paint while on the attack, posting 16 offensive rebounds to Bard's six. They also created eight steals.
St. Lawrence returns to the court Tuesday, as they head to Vermont to face off against Middlebury College on Jan. 9.
