Adam Dudzinski had his second straight game posting 17 points, and this time added 14 boards for a double-double as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team won their fifth straight, 76-60 over RIT Saturday afternoon at Burkman Gymnasium.
The win widens St. Lawrence's lead in the Liberty League standings, as they jump to a 7-2 record in conference play and 11-4 overall.
"This is the best we've shared the ball this season, and that is something we can hone in on as we prepare for the remainder of this season,"
Chris Downs, the Saints head coach, said after the game.
It was the Saints' torrid start that put them into the driver's seat, scoring the first seven points of the game and ultimately going up 18-3 on the Tigers before the game's first timeout. Dudzinski was strong from beyond the arc, hitting three straight three-balls at the beginning of the game.
The Scarlet and Brown would use their NCAA-best defense to keep a wide gap in the scoreline, going up 20 points with two minutes to play in the half. RIT strung together four points to make the score 40-24 at halftime.
St. Lawrence would pull away in the second half, completing the wire-to-wire win on home court. The victory was not just their fifth in a row, but their fifth conference win as well.
Gavin Macaulay's 18 points were a team-high, with
Trey Syroka adding 14 of his own. Syroka, a team captain, hit double-digit points in both home contests this weekend. That feat was also accomplished by Dudzinski.
The Saints have a busy week ahead, as they go to Clarkson Tuesday evening for a road contest before returning home for two home contests against Bard and Vassar on Jan. 26 and 27.
