Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mogul Strikes Twice; Hart and Edmonds Get Career Firsts in 4-1 Win

The offense came alive with two Max Mogul penalty kick goals flanked by career-first goals from Henry Hart and Eric Edmonds as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team raced to a 4-1 win on the campus of SUNY Canton on Tuesday night.

The Scarlet and Brown improved to 2-2-2 on the year, while the Roos fell to 2-5-0.

"It was a very good performance having the patience to breakdown a team in the low block defensively," said head coach Mike Toshack "Again, some young players displayed a lot of poise and bravery on the ball today. SUNY Canton is a difficult place to play as last time we were here it was a tight 1-0 win. We're looking forward to the start of Liberty League play at home this Saturday versus a very good RPI team."

The scoring was opened early in the contest with Hart firing his first career goal into the SUNY Canton woodwork. In the 9th minute of the contest, captain Michael McDougald possessed the ball in Roos' territory and crossed a ball into the box. Hart collected the pass an fired a laser passed the outstretched arms of Jason Meneses to give the Saints the lead.

Later in the first half, first-year Henry Brown made a deep run into the SUNY Canton end and was fouled in the box giving St. Lawrence a penalty kick. The junior forward Mogul was up to the task of cashing in on the effort to put the Saints up two in the 30th minute.

The Roos would find a gap in the St. Lawrence defense and cut into the lead five minutes later. Chase Ross was able to find Eric Randall for the goal to make it a 2-1 game at the half.

The Scarlet and Brown controlled the ball for a healthy majority of the contest not allowing SUNY Canton to touch the ball, and that would continue in the second half as the team looked for creases.

Minutes after McDougald nearly scored a goal to go with his assist, Mogul would once again cash in on a foul in the Roos' box. Mogul would hop back on the line and leave no doubt with a strike to put St. Lawrence up 3-1. The junior now has four goals on the season to lead the team and tie his career-high mark from 2022.

The Saints relentlessly pushed for more offense and got it from a member of the Class of 2027. In the 75th minute, sophomore Jeremy Ogango fired a perfect cross from his defensive position into the SUNY Canton box where Edmonds would corral the pass. The first-year outraced two defenders and fired a strike that would deflect off a defender and in to give him his first career goal and put the Saints up for good.

George Charalambous made two saves in the Saints net earning the win, while Meneses saved four shots in the Roos' goal.

St. Lawrence dominated the possession in the game and had an 11-7 edge in shots as well as an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Saints had four corners to the Roos' one.

With the penultimate non-conference game behind the Scarlet and Brown, the team turns to their Liberty League opener this Saturday, September 23 against RPI. The game will start at 1:00 p.m. at Sandy MacAllaster as St. Lawrence University celebrates Laurentian Weekend.
