Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mochnal, Stone, and Rogan Tally Goals; Women’s Soccer Defeats Castleton, 3-0

Grace Mochnal, Lilly Stone, and Zoe Rogan, all found the back of the net for the first time this season, as the St. Lawrence University Women's Soccer team posted a convincing 3-0 win against Castleton on Sunday afternoon at Applejack Stadium to close out the Manchester Cup.

The Saints improved to 2-2-1 with the win, while the Spartans fell to 1-3-0 on the young season.

"Proud of our group today," said head coach Sinead McSharry "A few more bounces went our way and it was good to see alot of players get time on the field. We still have some work to do before conference play and I believe this group will get it done. We're also thankful for the family support that came up to Vermont this weekend!"

After a hard-fought loss to Babson College yesterday, the Scarlet and Brown were looking to get back in the win column in a non-conference clash against Castleton University.

Before fans could even settle into the game, sophomore Stone opened up the scoring with her first career goal in the 12th minute of the contest. Stone beat the Spartans goalkeeper from the top corner of the box after receiving a solid pass from sophomore Meredith Donahue

At the 24:58 mark, the first-year Rogan collected her first career goal as well making it a 2-0 game for the Scarlet and Brown. The newcomer was able to finish off the effort off an assist from Bella D'Anza, the first of her career.

The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Saints at halftime, as senior captain goalkeeper Keely Snode provided some key saves down the stretch, while fellow captains Mia Cence, and Grace Bridge were tough on defense.

In the second half, it was Mochnal who all but secured the victory, with a beautiful shot that got by Emma Ezzo.  The assist was the second of the game for Donahue, and it was Mochnal's second career goal, and first of her Junior season.

Snode finished the game with two saves over 70:51 of play, while Darcie McDonough also made two saves in the final 19:09 to lock down the combined clean sheet. Ezzo made six saves for the Spartans.

The Scarlet and Brown outshot Castleton 18-8, including 9-4 shots on goal. The Saints also had the advantage in terms of corner kicks, 5-1.

Road trips will continue to the Saints next weekend because the team is slated to take on SUNY Oswego next Saturday, September 16, after having the week off in terms of game action.
