Baseball Takes Crossover Series With 7-6 Win Over Union

The top five of the Saints order ran hot as the St. Lawrence University baseball team took a 7-6 win over Union in game three of the Liberty League Crossover Series in Amsterdam, N.Y.

The Saints improved to 13-20, while the Dutchmen fell to 15-23.

Tynan Creagh led the Saints with two RBI in the game, while the two-through-five hitters for St. Lawrence all drove in a run a piece.

The start of the game was all Union as they took a 3-0 through three innings. In the bottom of the second, The Dutchmen took the lead with an RBI-single, then in the third they extended their lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run.

The Scarlet and Brown would take the lead from Union in the top of the fifth. Jimmy Liberatore started the attack with a single through the left side of the infield. John Donnellan would follow suit with a single of his own, but a throwing error would bring him to second, while Liberatore came home.

Later in the inning, Creagh tied the game with a two-RBI single to center field. Timothy Connor capped off the inning with an RBI-single of his own to take a 4-3 lead. Donnellan and Caleb Clark each tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings to extend the lead to 6-3.

Union would not go down quietly as they brought the game to within one with a two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning. St. Lawrence would get another run off a Liberatore single in the top of the ninth to give the Saints a two-run cushion.

The Dutchmen would get a run across home plate on a ground out in the bottom of the ninth, but the Scarlet and Brown would secure the final out to take the game and the series.

Christian Mingione started on the mound for St. Lawrence pitching three innings giving up two earned runs and striking out one. Sam Fosberg earned the win for the Saints pitching four and two thirds innings giving up just one run on five hits and struck out three. Brendan Karadenes came in next before Michael Watson earned his second save of the year pitching the final inning and a third.
