No. 15 Saints Fall to Stevens in Sunday Tilt

The No. 15 St. Lawrence University lacrosse team held the lead after the first quarter, but six goals from Camryn Rogers, helped power the Ducks of Stevens to an 18-8 win over the Saints on Sunday afternoon in Canton, N.Y.

Neve Ley recorded a hat trick and an assist for the Saints, while Dana Fernandez scored three of her own and won four draw controls. Bella Hillman and Charlotte Powell each tallied one goal, while Jacqui Cloutier and Haley Sundstrom each caused two turnovers.

The Ducks jumped out to an early lead scoring the first three goals in the first four minutes of play, but the Saints fought back.

St. Lawrence scored the next four to take a 4-3 lead after the first quarter, including two free-position goals from Ley.

Rogers scored three straight goals for the Ducks to open the second quarter of play. Stevens scored five straight in that run to build an 8-4 lead. The Ducks run was stopped by Ley's third goal of the afternoon.

After trading two goals apiece, Stevens led 11-7 heading into the final quarter of play.

The Ducks went on to outscore the Saints 6-2 in the final frame, sealing the win.    



Rogers led Stevens with six goals, an assist and nine draw control wins, while Maddie Schmidt and Zoe Cook each recorded four goals.

Saints' goaltender Raelynn Bovenzi made six saves, while Lauren Cunniff made 12 for Stevens. Courtney Lynn also saw some time in goal for the Saints, making two saves.

The Ducks outshot the Saints 34-26 and won 20 draws to St. Lawrence's 10.

With the loss, the Scarlet and Brown fell to 1-1 on the season, while the Ducks remain undefeated at 6-0.

The Saints will travel to Middlebury for a 6 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, March 15. In the IWLCA poll released last week, the Panthers are ranked No. 1 in the country following there National Championship win last season.
