Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Saints Back to Winning Ways at Skidmore

Saints captain Trey Syroka led the way with 16 points as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team bounced back for their first conference win of the season Saturday night at Skidmore, when they took away a 69-58 win at the Williamson Sports Center.

The win brings St. Lawrence's overall record up to 4-3, and their conference record to 1-1.

Syroka's first multi-point game of the season came at an opportune time, as the Saints recovered after dropping their first game of the season at the hands of Rensselaer.

Head coach Chris Downs says the Saints weren't dwelling on the victory after the game, as they prepare for a quick turnaround for home games this coming week against Clarkson.

"We had a nice bounce back win tonight," said Downs. "The enjoyment lasted for the walk from the court to the locker room. We are onto the next game; we have a lot to work on before we play again next week."

The first 10 minutes of the first half saw St. Lawrence stay even with Skidmore, before the Scarlet and Brown pulled away and added an 11-0 run between the eight- and four-minute marks of the half to go up 31-16. Skidmore then got 12 of the next 18 points to pull slightly closer before halftime, but were still down 37-28.

The Saints and Thoroughbreds traded offense in the first 10 minutes of the second half before St. Lawrence opened up a 20-point lead with 4:48 to play. Skidmore cut the lead down to 11 by the final buzzer by scoring the last six points of the game, but it wasn't enough and St. Lawrence walked out of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. with their fourth win of the year.
