Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three Saints Record Double Digit Points as St. Lawrence Edged by Oswego State

Andrew Cowan posted a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Adam Dudzinski led the way with 19 points, but the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team dropped their second straight non-conference game Monday night at the hands of Oswego State 66-58.

The loss brings the Saints' overall record to 3-2 as they head into Liberty League play.

Head coach Chris Downs said the team is learning valuable lessons playing good teams early in the season, but they need to learn them more quickly.

"In the Williams College game last week, we let one of their players go three-for-three in the second half," he said. "Tonight, we let Julien Crittendon make three in a row from deep. We have to do a better job of identifying who is hot and taking away their looks."

Despite dropping the game to the undefeated Lakers, the Saints continued to show signs of life offensively with three players – Dudzinski, Cowan and Trey Syroka – posting double-digit points.

St. Lawrence came out of the gate fast and led for nearly wire-to-wire in the game's first half, going up 4-0 on points from Cowan and two drained free throws from Dudzinski. The Saints would stretch their lead out to 15-7 before the Lakers slowly chipped away at the lead, ultimately tying the game at 24 with 29 seconds left in the half. St. Lawrence entered the second up 26-24.

Jeremiah Sparks then hit a three 39 seconds into the second half to give Oswego State a one point lead. The Saints kept pace with the Lakers but were unable to regain the lead again from there.

St. Lawrence's conference play begins on the road Friday with a trip to Rensselaer to take on the Engineers. Tip-off in Troy, N.Y. is slated for 7:30 p.m.
