Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Vassar Scores Early and Often in 5-0 Win over Saints

Two Vassar goals 1:04 apart were the difference Friday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team fell behind and weren't able to mount a comeback in a 5-0 loss to the Weinberg Turf Field.

Vassar struck first in the game, with Maggie Werner scoring at 8:23. They received more offense in the next few minutes, as Sydney Kovel added Vassar's second of the game at 13:54. The score stayed that way until halftime.

In the second, Vassar got their two goals in quick succession. First, Molly Zahnleuter scored at 36:14 and Karina Hoffman finished the dream start to the second half for her team by scoring at 37:18. That gave Vassar a large lead.

Hoffman added one other goal before the end of the contest to seal the victory for the home side.

Cara Vredenburg was the standout for St. Lawrence once again – she made 12 saves in the losing effort. Vassar outshot St. Lawrence 26-2 in the contest.

It's a quick turnaround for the Saints, as they now head home to North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium for a Sunday afternoon contest against RPI. Game start will be at 1 p.m.
