Aly McLeod tallied a pair of goals and three other members of the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team scored to open the 2023 portion of the schedule with a 5-0 win over Brown at Appleton Arena on Friday night.
The Scarlet and Brown scored their first goal of 2023 as
Katina Duscio found
Kristina Bahl at the top of the right circle. Bahl fired a shot to the top left corner for the 1-0 lead.
Just about eight minutes later, Bahl passed to
Taylor Lum, who took the initial shot that was stopped by Kaley Doyle, but
Anna Segedi was on the doorstep and slipped the puck five hole for a 2-0 advantage.
The Saints closed the first frame with the 2-0 lead and a 12-3 advantage in shots.
After a scoreless start to the second period,
Kennedy Wilson was sent off for a five-minute game misconduct penalty, but the Saints successfully killed off all of Brown's power play chances on the night.
The Saints third goal came of the stick of McLeod on the power play, as Segedi sent a cross-crease pass straight to the stick of McLeod for the one timer.
McLeod scored her second of the game at 4:16 of the third. Both Duscio and
Shailynn Snow fought for the puck along the boards and McLeod scooped it up to the right of Doyle making it 4-0.
Rachel Teslak capped off scoring for the Saints at 6:45 of the third. Teslak played the puck to Duscio, who sent the puck back for for the hard shot from point.
"Certainly a great way to start the New Year," said head coach
Chris Wells. "We were able to capitalize early and that gave us a spark."

"We were able to get to the net tonight and execute down low. Our goalies were sharp and we had contributions up and down the line up for the first game back."
Lucy Morgan made 10 saves and combined with Emma-Sofie Nordström for the shutout effort. Nordström made seven saves in her first outing in Scarlet and Brown. Doyle finished with 20 saves for the Bears.
Bahl and Segedi finished with a goal and an assist, while Duscio recorded three helpers.

St. Lawrence finished with a 25-17 edge in shots and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Brown finished 0-for-5 with the advantage.
The Saints are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host No. 3 Yale at 3 p.m.ÂÂ
