Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Third Period Pushes RPI Past Saints in ECAC Play

RPI used two third-period goals to claim a 2-0 victory over the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y.

Despite the score, the Saints came out firing on all cylinders, outshooting the Engineers 9-2 in the first 20 minutes of play.

That momentum carried throughout the second period as well, as the Scarlet and Brown continued to pepper RPI goaltender Amanda Rampado with 11 shots to the Engineers' four.

It was the third period that would make the difference in today's matchup.

The Engineers first goal came at the 8:02 of the third, as Sarah Bukvic got tangled up with a Saints' defender, Bukvic was able to circle the puck behind her and Meg Hildner was able to capitalize on the redirect, sending the puck over Lucy Morgan's shoulder.

Head coach Chris Wells pulled Morgan with 1:09 remaining looking for the equalizer. The Saints were able to put a few on net, but Rampado was up to the task.

Just before time would expire, Ellie Kaiser added one more for RPI. Her original shot was blocked at the point by Kristina Bahl, but Kaiser sent another one in on an empty net for the 2-0 victory.

"I don't think I have been a part of a team that has worked as hard as this team and not gotten the results," said Wells. "We had all kinds of chances and Rampado was excellent when she needed to be."

"Once the sting wears off, we will be ready to go for another week of hockey with three big games."

Morgan made 22 stops for the Saints, while Rampado finished with 30.

St. Lawrence outshot the Engineers 30-24, with Abby Hustler leading the way with eight shots on net. Both teams finished 0-for-4 on the power play.

The Saints, who played there fifth game in nine days, fell to 11-13-1 overall and 5-6-1 in ECAC play, while RPI improved to 6-17-1 and 2-10-1, respectively.

The Saints will remain on the road for another midweek matchup, as they travel to RIT on Tuesday, January 17 for a 6 p.m. start, before heading home for the Route 11 rivalry series with Clarkson on January 20-21.
