Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cence’s Scintillating Strike Lifts Saints Over Rams

Sophomore Mia Cence scored from 50-yards out for the lone goal in the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team's 1-0 win against the Farmingdale Rams on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa.

The Scarlet and Brown improved to 4-0-1, while Farmingdale State College fell to 1-4.

"Overall, we are very happy with the group's performance," said head coach Sinead McSharry. "We have a few things to work out and we are looking forward to a full week of training to prepare for an early start to conference play. We'd like to thank Misericordia for hosting us this weekend."

Eight minutes into the game, the Scarlet and Brown earned a free kick just inside their half and Cence lined up over the ball. The defense held a high line, and the sophomore ripped a shot over everyone, including the outstretched arms of the keeper, into the top right corner of the net for her first collegiate goal.

St. Lawrence kept up the pressure in the first half and went into the midway break with a 12-3 advantage in shots, and had three corner kicks to Farmingdale's one

The Rams took control early in the second half, and forced a save from Keely Snode just a minute into play. A minute late, they had another shot which sailed over the goal. Snode would make three more saves in the second half for a total of five in her third complete clean sheet of the season.

Keely Snode earned her second shutout of the weekend and third of the season stopping all five shots she faced. Chloe Kensell stopped two shots in the opening half of play for the Rams, while Lindsey Jolly saved four shots in the second half.

St. Lawrence opens league play on Saturday, September 17th when they host RPI at 3 p.m.
