Cora Ferguson hit a two-run home run to tie the game, and
Lauryn Best hit a three-run homer to take the lead in the second game of the double header as the St. Lawrence University softball team split the twin bill against RIT on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.
St. Lawrence 0, RIT 3
The Tigers took game one 3-0, despite only out hitting the Saints 7-6. RIT scored one run in the second, fifth and six innings, which was good enough for the victory as St. Lawrence left seven on base.
The Saints' best chance was their final chance. With two outs in the top of the seventh
Sofia Adams hit a pinch-hit single which fell in over the shortstop's head in left center.
Tori Rotundo was next up and slapped a single to right, which moved Adams to third and Rotundo advanced on the throw. The would be tying run popped out to the first baseman and the Tigers took the game one win.
Sofia Berryhill started in the circle and gave up just one earned run in four innings pitched.
Jacee Casebolt relieved the final two innings and gave up just two hits.
St. Lawrence 6, Rochester 4
RIT jumped out to a three run lead in the second game, but tied it in the fourth.
Margo Hopper worked a lead-off walk, and
Lauryn Best tripled to right field to bring her home. Ferguson homer to left for her second of the season to tie the game at three.
In the top of the fifth, Best doubled the Saints' score with one swing of the bat. With Rotundo and Hopper on the corners, Best hit her first four-bagger of the season to left field and made it 6-3 Saints. The Tigers got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, but the scarlet and brown held on for the 6-4 win.
Casebolt started in the circle and Berryhill relieved for the final four innings. Berryhill improved to 5-2 on the season following the two games, and Casebolt ended the day with a pair of no-decisions.
