Sullivan And Avery Earn Wins; Saints Fall 7-2

Juniors Lillian Sullivan and Caitlyn Avery were able to secure wins in the number one and two singles spots, but the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team ultimately fell 7-2 to Vassar College on Sunday afternoon at the Newell Field House.

St. Lawrence fell to 5-5 on the season and 1-3 in Liberty Legue play, while Vassar improved to 10-1 and 3-0 in conference play.

The Brewers went 3-0 in the doubles round, but Avery and Emily Harris didn't go down without a fight as they narrowly lost 8-7 (7-3) to Macey Dowd and Tatum Blalock.

At the number one singles, Blalock jumped out to a 7-5 set win over Sullivan. Sullivan fared better in the second set taking a 3-1 lead before Blalock retired from the match giving the junior the win.

In the number two spot, Avery dropped her opening set 6-3 against Macey Dowd. Th junior came back to win the next set 6-4 to tie the match and force a third set. Avery completed the comeback with a 10-4 win to take the match.

The Scarlet and Brown will head to the road next weekend to take on Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. The match is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
