The St. Lawrence men's basketball team's season came to a close following a 67-55 loss to Skidmore on Tuesday night in Burkman Gymnasium.
Skidmore held the Saints to just 13 first half points, and went into the break leading 33-13. The Saints shot under 15-percent from the floor and were just one of 11 from deep.
In the second half, Skidmore pushed their lead to 25, their biggest of the game, with 11 minutes left. St. Lawrence responded by scoring 10 straight points to cut the lead to 52-37 with seven minutes to play. The Saints continued to chip away at the lead, and
Aidan Macaulay hit an off balance mid-range jumper through contact, and hit the following free throw to cut the lead to nine with just under two minutes to play. Skidmore responded with six straight, and held on to win 67-55.
"Our inexperience and nerves showed in the first half," said head coach
Chris Downs. "I believe we learned some very important lessons tonight. If guys take to improving, we may find some success down the road."
Gavin Macaulay led the Saints with 14 points.
Trent Adamson had 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Thoroughbreds were led by Tautvydas Kupstas' 20 points. Greg Skoric had 14 points and 18 rebounds, and Harrison Eichelberger added 14 points as well.
The Saints were out-rebounded 49 to 36.
After the poor first half shooting, the Saints hit over 42-percent of their shots in the second half. Skidmore finished with a game average of 44.8-percent from the floor.
