Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Buhl Scores Power Play Goal, Skating Saints Fall 4-1 To UNH

Senior forward Cameron Buhl scored late in the first period to tie the game at 1-1 but three goals in the final two periods from teh Wildcats sent the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team to a 4-1 loss to the University of New Hampshire on Saturday night at Appleton Arena.

The Scarlet and Brown faithful packed the stands to the tune of 2048 fans in the Laurentian Weekend finale.

New Hampshire hopped onto the board first as Morgan Winters redirected a goal past Emil Zetterquist. Colton Huard possessed the puck at the blueline for the Wildcats and sent a snapshot towards goal that went off Winters and in to claim the 1-0 lead for the Wildcats.

In the final minute of the first period the Skating Saints would tie up the contest on the power play. New Hampshire's Robert Cronin was flagged for his second infraction of the period, this time a boarding that sent St. Lawrence to the man-advantage. Saints' defensemen Tucker McIntosh and Philippe Chapleau worked the puck at the top of the power play unit and eventually found Buhl, who collected a pass from Chapleau and ripped it through a screen and in to tie the game at 1-1.

St. Lawrence held the 10-7 edge in shots in the second period but struggled to get anything past Tyler Muszelik in net. Instead, the Wildcats doubled their lead with a power play tally of their own at the 9:21 mark of the second. The Saints created a 4-on-1 odd-man rush on the penalty kill, but the attempt was turned away and with all four players up on the rush, Liam Devlin found Cronin alone, who went down on a breakaway and scored for the 2-1 lead.

Just 33 seconds into the final period, Devlin would tally one of his own on a 2-on-1 rush to double the lead. Moments later, the Saints fell victim to another deflection as a Damien Carfagna shot from the point deflected off a St. Lawrence defender and in to put New Hampshire up 4-1.

St. Lawrence went on the man-up twice in the remaining 18 minutes of the game, including a five-minute man-advantage. The Scarlet and Brown peppered the New Hampshire net with eight power play shots and 11 total but could not get any closer to the Wildcats.

Zetterquist finished the game with 20 saves, while Muszelik stopped 31 in the win.

The Saints outshot New Hampshire 32-24 in the contest. St. Lawrence went 1-for-6 in their power play chances, while the Wildcats went 1-for-3.

The Skating Saints will be back in action at Appleton Arena next Friday and Saturday as they play host to Colorado College in a two-game set. Both games are slated for 7:00 p.m. starts.
