No. 20 Herons Hold Off Saints Comeback

Maggie Green had a goal and an assist as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team lost to No. 20-ranked William Smith College Herons 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Canton, N.Y.

Emily Leonard scored the first two goals for the Herons, the first coming off a penalty corner in the first quarter, and the second from a penalty stroke in the second quarter. Sofia Pattillo made it three shortly after.

Just before half-time the Saints earned a penalty corner, and Mayson Blondek passed the ball towards the cage, where Cricket Barnes one-timed it to Green who was able to knock it into the corner of the cage.

The final goal of the game came in the final minute of the game. Morgan Misiaszek took the penalty corner to Suzanne L'Hommedieu at the top of the circle. L'Hommedieu made a wall pass to Green, and L'Hommedieu buried a high shot into the back of the net. The comeback ultimately came up short, with not enough time left on the clock to get the equalizer.

Cara Vredenburg made six save for the Saints, and Kristen McCormick made one for the Herons.

Head coach Fran Grembowicz
"I'm really proud of the way we continued to fight after being down 3-0. We continued to battle and got one goal in before halftime, and rallied until the end, so the fight was there. Cara played a nice game in net again."
