Sophomore Ava McCann scored 10 points, but an explosive Vassar offense lifted the second-seeded Brewers to a 79-49 win over the third-seeded St. Lawrence University women's basketball team in game two of the Liberty League semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, New York.

McCann went 2-for-2 from the arc, while first-year Olivia Barringer tallied eight points, and Katie Frederick and Olivia Middleton added six. Barringer and Frederick each grabbed seven rebounds, while Olivia Middleton recorded four assists and two steals.

Vassar posted an early 9-0 run to lead 12-5 with 4:54 to play in the first frame. The Brewers continued to extend their lead to hold a 26-10 advantage after the first quarter.

After an evenly matched second quarter, the Brewers led 38-21 at halftime.

McCann and Dylan Watkiss scored back-to-back 3-pointers to open the second half and bring the game within 11 points, but the quick run from the Saints was short lived as the Brewers put up 16 straight points to lead 56-29 with 3:54 to play in the third. Barringer ended the scoring drought for the Saints, but Ryan DeOrio landed a last second three to lift the Brewers lead back up to a 25-point lead heading into the final frame.

Vassar outscored St. Lawrence 16-11 in the fourth quarter for the win.

"It just wasn't meant to be today," said head coach Dan Roiger. "We struggled with execution on offense, turnovers, and rebounding and Vassar got us good. It doesn't take away from our season though. We grew a lot and established an excellent culture for the future. It was a pleasure to coach this team."

Isa Peczuh shot 4-for-8 from the arc and led Vassar with 17 points, while Sophie Nick added 14 points and a team-best 13 rebounds. Jackie Cenan also finished with 14 points, while DeOrio added 12. Peczuh and Cenan each recorded three steals each for the Brewers.

Vassar shot 45.7 percent from the field and 52.9 percent from the arc, and held the Saints to just 36.2 and 35.7 percent, respectively.

The Saints closed the season 18-9 overall, while the Brewers improved to 19-7 overall and will advance to play top-seeded Ithaca in the Liberty League Championships tomorrow afternoon.
