Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Saints Outlast Big Green, 3-2

Shailynn Snow scored a goal and added an assist to help the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team build a 3-0 lead through two periods, and the Saints were able to outlast Dartmouth for a 3-2 win in an ECAC Hockey contest at Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire, on Friday night.

Lotti Odnoga and Currie Putrah scored third period goals for the Big Green, who outshot St. Lawrence 21-4 in the final frame.

With Colgate's win over Union, St. Lawrence is now locked into the No. 8 seed in the ECAC Hockey tournament and will face top-seeded Cornell next weekend in Ithaca. While the Saints, now 13-13-7 overall and 8-9-4 in ECAC Hockey, could move into a tie for seventh with Quinnipiac tomorrow, Quinnipiac holds the tiebreaker with more conference wins. Dartmouth fell to 7-18-3, 4-14-3.

"Wild finish for us tonight," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "The clock ran out right on time. Dartmouth really came on in the third after we played a very solid two periods before that. It's tough to win on the road in this league and we are happy to head to Harvard with a win tonight."

Snow scored the first goal of the game halfway through the first period, one-timing a feed from Julia Gosling from behind the net through Dartmouth goaltender Kayla Wormsbecher's pads for her sixth goal of the season.

Charlea Pedersen increased the lead to 2-0 five minutes into the second period. Skylar Podvey started the play with a hard slap shot from the point that Wormsbecher saved. Dakota Golde followed with two more shots from just outside the crease which the Dartmouth goaltender saved. The puck squirted over to the left side of the net, and Brittney Gout tipped it back across the crease and Pedersen was able to put the puck away for her second goal in as many games.

Kalie Grant scored a power play goal less than two minutes later, redirecting a feed from Snow right in front of the crease to also score a goal in consecutive games for the Saints. Podvey also picked up an assist on the play.

While St. Lawrence held a 28-17 lead in shots on goal in the first two periods, the third period was all Dartmouth. Odnoga cut the lead to two with a  power play goal just three minutes into the period, wiring a wrist shot from the top of the left circle through a screen into the top right corner of the net.

Putrah cut the lead to one just three minutes later, curling around from behind the net and sending a backhand between St. Lawrence goaltender Lucy Morgan's pads and the short side post. Morgan, however, withstood the onslaught, stopped 19 shots to preserve the victory.

Jaimie Rainville picked up the win for the Saints, stopping 10 shots in the first period, while Caitlin Whitehead made seven saves in the second period. Wormsbecher made 29 saves for the Big Green.

The Saints will close out the regular season on Saturday at Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
