The following letter was sent to the Laurentian community this afternoon by Senior Associate Vice President for Athletics
Bob Durocher.
Dear Laurentian Community,
I write to provide you an update on winter sports. Earlier today, the Liberty League announced that all
winter league competitions and championships are cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Â
However, at St. Lawrence, we plan to have as many winter sports teams as possible participate in practices and intra-squad activities. We will also consider the potential for some intercollegiate scrimmages or competitions later in the winter season with limited regional opponents if public health conditions permit.Â
I share in your disappointment and want you to know that our priority remains our entire campus community's health and safety.Â
Division I Hockey
St. Lawrence still intends to play Division I hockey this year. While ECAC Hockey continues to discuss the best path forward, we are attempting to coordinate non-conference competitions. While we don't anticipate that fans will be allowed due to public health protocols, we will stream our home games on ESPN+.Â
Other Winter Sports Leagues
The College Squash Association, the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association, and the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association have not decided about winter sports. It is important to understand that some of our opponents have already canceled all winter athletic competition. Â
Spring Sports
We are hopeful that public health conditions will allow our participation in spring sports. However, these discussions have not yet started.Â
I am so proud of the job that our teams have done this fall to keep our campus safe while also providing an opportunity for our student-athletes to continue their development of collaborative and leadership skills. I look forward to the next semester and wish you and your families a healthy and Happy Thanksgiving. Â
Go Saints!
Bob Durocher
