Junior Katie Frederick posted a career-best 28 points, shooting 12-for-19 from the floor, and recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 14 rebounds to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 70-54 conference win over William Smith on Saturday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.
 
The Saints posted their fifth straight win and improved to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the Liberty League, while William Smith fell to 9-7 and 5-4.
 
Frederick also added two blocks and two steals, while Caroline Rodi shot 3-for-5 from arc for nine points. Olivia Middleton finished with a team-best five assists and four steals, while Olivia Barringer added six points and seven rebounds.
 
After a back-and-forth battle through the first quarter, Annabella Pugliese landed a last-second 3-pointer to put the Saints up 21-18 after the first 10 minutes of play.
 
The Saints opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 27-18 and capped the run with a 3-pointer from Dylan Watkiss to lead by 12 points with 5:55 remaining in the half. St. Lawrence outshot the Herons 17-5 in the second frame to lead 38-23 at halftime.
 
The Herons outscored the Saints 21-20 in the third, but were unable to come within a single-digit margin. The Saints edged the Herons 12-10 in the final frame to post their fifth straight win.
 
"This was a hard-fought game against an energetic and athletic William Smith squad," said head coach Dan Roiger. "They are a matchup nightmare for us, but our defense really settled in well and contested shots, especially from the arc. We did an excellent job of limiting our turnovers and beating the post double-team with some kickouts. Caroline Rodi was a big spark off the bench for us and Katie Frederick was outstanding tonight in every phase of the game.  She shot it well, rebounded great, and really defended well without fouling. Our bench came up huge, each player made significant contributions in various parts of the game, and that's what it takes when you play back-to-back games.  It was a great weekend for the team!"
 

 
Emma Gallagher led the Herons with 15 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the arc, while Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou recorded 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Lauren DeVaney added 10 points.
 
St. Lawrence recorded 19 second-chance points and 19 points off turnovers and shot a combined 40 percent from the floor and 42.1 percent from the arc. The Saints' defense held the Herons to 32.8 percent from the floor and 14.3 percent from 3-point range.
 
The Saints will continue their stretch of home games, hosting Clarkson on Tuesday, January 28 at 5:30 p.m.
