Cardinals Edge Saints 2-0 in North Country Classic

Otterbein University scored one goal in each half to edge the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team 2-0 on day two of the North Country Classic at Sandy MacAllaster Field Saturday afternoon.

"We came up short against a very tough Otterbein team today," said head coach Mike Toshack. "It was a good opportunity for us to grow as a team, playing back-to-back games, which helps us gain some great match fitness early in the season. We look forward to keep building and playing Oneonta and Hartwick next weekend in Oneonta."

Pau Piang found Eric Stucky, who lofted the ball into the upper right corner to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage in the 31st minute of play.

Gabe Sharrock made it 2-0 with a header off the free kick from Piang in the 71st minute.

Andrew Lenfant and Miles Levy led the Saints with two shots on goal each.

Saints' goalkeeper Ben Woelfinger recorded seven saves, while Andrew McIlvoy made five for the shutout.

Both the Cardinals and the Saints recorded 14 shots, but Otterbein tallied nine shots on goal to the Saints' five.

St. Lawrence wraps up its first weekend of non-conference play 1-1-1 the season, while Otterbein also finished 1-1-0.

The Saints will head to Oneonta, New York to take on Oneonta and Hartwick on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
