No. 19 Saints Defeat Potsdam, 17-3

Junior Mike Donnelly scored five goals and added three assists for eight points, while sophomore Jack Hennessey notched three goals and added four assists for seven points to lead the 19th-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 17-3 non-conference win over SUNY Potsdam under the lights in Potsdam, New York.

Hennessey also grabbed seven ground balls, while Donnelly picked up three. Kyle Gagne scored twice for the Saints, while Conor Caffrey and Alex Mapstone each recorded a goal and an assist. Nick Brindisi, David Jennings, Garret Glasgow, Mark Mahoney and Matthew McDonald also scored for the Scarlet and Brown. Patrick Abad and Stew Hutchinson each assisted on two plays, while Guthrie Little picked up four ground balls and Brian Gannon caused two turnovers. Liam Doherty led four Saints at the faceoff dot, going 7-for-10. McDonald, the junior from Camillus, New York, recorded his first collegiate goal in tonight's win.

Donnelly fed Glasgow to put the Saints on the board at 10:12 of the first quarter and Gabe Carbone recorded his first goal of the night to tie the game 1-1 with 6:32 remaining in the first frame. The Saints then added 10 unanswered goals to build an 11-1 lead at halftime.

Gagne recorded back-to-back tallies, scoring the lone goal in the third quarter and opening the fourth quarter of play. Carbone and Cam Talcott scored the second and third goals for the Bears just over a minute apart, before the Saints fired off four straight to end the game. Hutchinson assisted Brindisi and McDonald for the final two goals of the game.

Carbone led SUNY Potsdam with two goals and two ground balls, while Talcott also scored for the Bears. Colby Chapman and Luke Vitale each recorded four ground balls, while three members of the Bears' squad each caused one turnover.

Alex Terry recorded the win in goal for the Saints with four saves and shared time in net with Jordan Eichholz and William Helm. Zach Sheridan made 15 saves for the Bears.

St. Lawrence outshot SUNY Potsdam 52-19, including 32-8 in shots on goal. The Saints also picked up 48 ground balls to Potsdam's 22.

The Saints improved to 11-2 on the season, while Potsdam fell to 4-7.

The Scarlet and Brown will travel to Rochester, New York to take on No. 2 RIT on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m.
