Mike Donnelly scored four goals and five other members of the Saints' squad each netted one to lead the St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to a 9-4 non-conference win over SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon in Geneseo, New York.
The Saints, who are receiving votes in the latest USILA Coaches Poll, improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Knights fell to 1-2 overall.
Donnelly also recorded two assists for six points and picked up five ground balls.
Jack Hennessey notched two goals and an assist, while
Brian Cunningham,
Harrison Koch and
Peter Koch each scored for the Saints.
Alex Terry picked up a team-high seven ground balls, while
Brian Gannon and
Tyler Burns each caused two turnovers.
Hennessey fed Donnelly to give the Saints a 1-0 lead just one minute into play and about two and half minutes later

Donnelly scored the next two for the Saints, completing the hat trick and notching his seventh and eighth goals of the season. Cameron Chiodo put the Knights on the board at 7:07 of the second quarter and 56 seconds later Patrick Morris cut the Saints scored to cut the Saints lead to two.Â
Jake Steffen netted the third straight goal for the Knights in a two-minute span, bringing the game within one. Morris scored his second to tie the game 4-4, but Donnelly struck once more for the Saints with his fourth of the game, giving St. Lawrence a 5-4 halftime advantage.
It was all Saints after halftime, as Donnelly assisted on back-to-back goals from Cunningham and Hennessey. Hennessey and
Harrison Koch also notched unassisted goals for the Saints down the stretch to help seal the win.
"I thought it was a solid effort throughout the game today," said head coach
Mike Mahoney '93 P '22. "We had a little bit of a letdown in the second quarter, but really responded well in the second half. We are still learning a lot each time out and look forward to the next opportunity on Tuesday at home."
Morris led the Knights with two goals, while Steffen and Chiodo each scored one. Jack Crowley and Reed Bresky each picked up three ground balls, while Crowley caused two turnovers for the Knights.

Alex Terry made nine saves, while Tyler Wetzel made 10 saves for the Knights.
St. Lawrence outshot SUNY Geneseo 34-21 and held a 19-13 advantage in shots on goal. The Saints also held a 38-27 edge in ground balls, while the Knights held a 12-5 faceoff advantage and converted on one extra-man opportunity.
The Saints will host Middlebury in their home opener on Tuesday, March 12 at 5 p.m.
