Abigail Eberle scored a season-high three goals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team, but the Saints fell to Hamilton 16-7 in non-conference action to close their spring break trip in Englewood, Florida on Thursday morning.
Emma Owens scored two goals for the Saints, while
Alexandra LaMotte and
Callie O'Neil each added one and
Isabel Silvia recorded an assist and won a team-best five draw controls.
Morgan Barlow picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Hamilton quickly built an early 3-0 lead over the Saints with goals from Tatiana Bradley, Charlotte Wynn and Lauren Hamilton within the first two and half minutes of play. Â
Eberle recorded her first of the game unassisted to cut Hamilton's lead to two and then beat traffic and netted her second of the game off the feed from Silvia at 14:39 of the first half. Â
The Continentals scored six straight goals to build a 10-2 lead at halftime. Both teams traded goals through the first eight minutes of the second half, before Owens netted back-to-back tallies at 12:44 and 11:07.
LaMotte scored the last goal for the Saints with 3:22 to play, but an early lead sealed the win for the Continentals.
Bradley, Hamilton, Wynn and Honor Gabriel led Hamilton with two goals each, while eight other members of the Continentals' squad each recorded one. Kara Pooley won a team-high four draw control and picked up four ground balls, while Gabby O'Brien caused three turnovers.
Saints' goalkeeper
Olga Lukas made 11 saves between the pipes, while Hannah Burrall recorded the win with 13 saves for the Continentals. Megan O'Hara and Eleni Neyland also shared time in goal for Hamilton.
The Continentals outshot the Saints 32-25 and held a slight 27-22 shots on goal advantage.
St. Lawrence fell to 1-4 on the season, while Hamilton improved to 3-2.
The Saints will take on Vassar on Saturday, March 23 in Poughkeepsie, New York before traveling back to the North Country. The opening draw control is set for 1 p.m.
