With the first basket of tonight's game, graduate captain Riley Naclerio moved into second place on the St. Lawrence University men's basketball all-time scoring list, but the Saints fell to Rensselaer, 67-60, in Liberty League action on Friday night in Troy, New York.

Naclerio shot 8-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-8 from the arc to lead the Scarlet and Brown with 20 points and now holds second place with 1,476 career points, surpassing Blaine Harris '85, who previously held second with 1,457 career points. Naclerio also grabbed seven rebounds, while Luke Hicks scored 14 points and Dom DeRegis added nine.

After a back-and-forth battle through the first ten minutes of play, St. Lawrence took a 17-15 lead on a 3-pointer from DeRegis, but the Engineers pushed back and gained a 28-17 lead on a 13-0 run and extended their lead to 35-21 at halftime.

RPI maintained its edge throughout the second half. Naclerio made it a five point game (63-58) with a layup with 1:41 to play, but the Engineers secured the win from the free throw line. The Saints improved their shooting to 41.7% in the second half and outscored the Engineers 39-32, but were unable to overcome the first-half deficit.

Patrick Mahoney led the Engineers with 18 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Tom Horvat and Marcus Giese scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Giese also recorded four blocks and two steals for Rensselaer.

The Engineers shot 39.4% from the floor and held the Saints to 36.5% shooting. St. Lawrence recorded 20 points off the bench, while Rensselaer recorded 14 points off turnovers.

St. Lawrence fell to 16-8 on the season and 13-4 in conference play, while the Engineers improved to 14-10 and 9-8.

The Saints will battle the Thoroughbreds for the regular-season title tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, New York.
