Three members of the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team scored double digits, but William Smith rallied to top the Saints 65-61 in Liberty League play on Friday night in Burkman Gymnasium.
First-year
Ava McCann, who shot 2-for-5 from the arc, led the Saints with 15 points, while
Katie Frederick recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds and
Dylan Watkiss scored 10 points.
The Saints claimed an early lead over the Herons, but William Smith rallied and tied the game at 12 after the first 10 minutes of play.
William Smith extended its lead to 22-17 off a 3-pointer from Emma Gallagher with 6:26 remaining in the second quarter, but a 5-0 run down the stretch brought the Saints within one at halftime.
After three lead changes to open the second half, St. Lawrence took an eight-point lead with 3:48 to play in the third and maintained a 51-47 edge heading into the final frame.
The Herons rallied, tied the game at 58 with 2:29 to play and took a 61-58 lead with a 3-pointer from Olivia Hughes with just over a minute to play. William Smith outscored the Saints 18-10 in the fourth quarter for the win. Â Â
Mia Morrison led the Herons with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Olivia Hughes and Amy Dooley scored 12 points and 11 points, respectively. Stavriana Dimitrakopoulou grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
William Smith shot 38.5% from the floor, while the Saints combined to shoot 36.1%.
St. Lawrence fell to 7-12 on the season and 4-8 in conference play, while the Herons improved to 12-7 and 8-5.
The Saints will host RIT on Saturday, February 2 at 2 p.m.
