Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DeRegis Leads Saints to Win Over Hobart from the Arc

Senior Dom DeRegis shot a stellar 6-for-7 from the arc to lead the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 72-58 win over Hobart in Liberty League play to reclaim the top spot in the conference standings on Friday evening in Burkman Gymnasium.

The Saints improved to 13-6 on the season and 10-2 in conference play, while Hobart fell to 12-8 and 9-4.

Luke Hicks scored 15 points, while Ben Crawford added 13 and Riley Naclerio recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds and moved into seventh place on the Saints all-time scoring list with 1,392 career points.

After a low scoring start to the first half, the Saints took a 9-6 lead on DeRegis's first 3-pointer of the night. The Scarlet and Brown extended their lead to double-digits with three minutes remaining in the half and maintained a 28-20 edge at halftime.

Naclerio netted a 3-pointer, giving the Saints a 31-20 lead in the opening minute of the second half. St. Lawrence maintained a double-digit spread throughout the second half and outscored the Statesmen 44-38 for the win.

"We continue to be better and better defensively," said head coach Chris Downs. "It was a break out night for Dom and we have a lot more margin for error when he shoots like that."

Jamal Lucas shot 8-for-16 from the floor to lead Hobart with 20 points, while Colin Dougherty finished with 18. Lucas and Edens Fleurizard each grabbed eight rebounds for the Statesmen.

St. Lawrence shot 46.2% from the floor and held Hobart to 36.7% shooting. St. Lawrence finished with 18 points off turnovers and 22 points off the bench, while Hobart recorded 11 points off turnovers.

The Saints host RIT on Saturday, February 2 at 4 p.m.
