Kayla Vespa and Shailynn Snow combined for a pair of third period goals to lead the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Rensselaer in the ECAC Hockey opener for both teams at Houston Field House in Troy on Friday night.

Vespa tied the score at the 6:36 mark of the third, taking a feed from Snow on a 3-on-2 break in the slot and putting a shot high on the blocker side for her seventh goal of the season.

Snow gave the Saints their first lead of the game with a power play goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation, sweeping the puck into a wide open net after a hard drive by Steph Keryluk to the left side was redirected to the top of the crease by Vespa.

RPI held a 1-0 lead for most of the game. Sabrina Repaci picked up a loose puck after a St. Lawrence player was tripped up at her own blue line and hit Blake Orosz on the right wing. Orosz came in alone on net and sent a shot to top left corner of the net about halfway through the opening period.

"It's always a tough game down here in Houston Field House," said Saints' head coach Chris Wells '92. "RPI played hard and transitioned very well once they got the puck. (RPI goaltender Ena) Nystrom played very well and swallowed up most of the shots we took. We stayed in the game and found a way to get the two points. Our power play has been good all year and came through at the right time. This team has had a number of comebacks this year and that will really help us as we move forward."



St. Lawrence outshot the Engineers 40-12, was 1-for-4 on the power play and held RPI scoreless in one power play opportunity.

Lucy Morgan earned the win in net, stopping 11 shots, including a blocker save on a hard drive by Lauren Severson with just over a minute to play. Nystrøm made 38 saves for RPI.

The Saints improved to 4-3-2 overall and 1-0-0 in ECAC Hockey. RPI fell to 0-7-1, 0-1-0.

St. Lawrence has the rest of the weekend off, as the team's game against Union, originally scheduled for Saturday, was rescheduled and will be played on Tuesday, January 28. The Saints will host Cornell and Colgate in conference games next weekend at SUNY Canton.
