Gabi Tulk scored the game winner with one second left in regulation to lift Vassar to a 2-1 win over the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team in conference action on Friday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
Katie Clemmer put the Saints on the board in the 38th minute of play. Clemmer beat the Vassar defender off the free kick from
Tori Daley giving the Scarlet and Brown a 1-0 lead.
Ally Thayer scored on a low shot off the pass from Skylar Herrera-Ross to tie the game 1-1 in the 59th minute.
The Brewers' Savannah Cutler set up for the corner kick with eight seconds to play and Tulk sealed the win on a last-second header past Saints' goalkeeper
Cynnie White at 89:59.
"I thought we were unlucky today, although I do think we had some chances on goal that we could have put away early," said head coach
Sinead McSharry. "During the second half, we just gave the ball away a lot. You can't turn into pressure when you're playing a team like Vassar. Now, we need to take the positives from this game and move on and be ready for a quick turnaround tomorrow."
White and
Samantha Allen split time in goal for the Saints. Allen finished with four saves, while White recorded three and Brewers' goalkeeper Fiona Walsh finished with eight.
The Saints held a slight 13-12 edge in shots, while both teams recorded nine shots on goal.
St. Lawrence fell to 8-3-0, while Vassar improved to 6-6-1. Both teams moved to 3-2-0 in Liberty League play.
The Saints will host Bard on Saturday, October 19 at 3 p.m.
