Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Reynolds Nets Two, Saints Edged by RIT

Sophomore Robert Reynolds scored two goals, but the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team was edged by RIT 3-2 in Liberty League action at Sandy MacAllaster Field Saturday afternoon.

Reynolds put the Saints on the board with a header goal in the 26th minute of play for the 1-0 lead. Aidan Callahan and Marvin Sibanda assisted on the play.

Jared Short tied the game up for the Tiger's, as he pushed past the Saints' defense for RIT's first goal in the 32nd minute. Simon Garno then put the Tigers up 2-1 off the pass from Nick Simone, who tallied his second assist of the game, just over 13 minutes into the second half.

Short added his second of the game off a rebound from Saint's goalkeeper Ben Woelfinger, lifting the Tigers to a 3-1 lead in the 64th minute.

Reynolds added his third of the season in the 87th minute closing the gap to one, but the Tigers would maintain their advantage for the win.

"A tough loss today at home," said head coach Mike Toshack. "As a young team, we're continuing to learn how to manage games, and today was definitely a learning experience for the group. Now we need to regroup and turn our attention to Vassar and Bard next weekend."

Woelfinger finished with one save for the Saints, while RIT's Spencer Raymond-Smit made four.

Despite the final score, the Saints outshot the Tigers 10-5 and held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Both teams moved to 4-6-1 on the season, while the Saints fell to 1-3-1 in conference play and the Tigers improved to 2-2-0.

St. Lawrence will hit the road to take on Vassar and Bard on October 18 and 19, respectively. Game times are set for 4 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
