The St. Lawrence University volleyball team posted back-to-back victories against Hamilton and Alfred to sweep play on day two of the Hawks Invitational on Saturday afternoon in New Paltz, New York.
With the match win over Alfred, Roiger recorded her 200th career victory, which includes 155 wins at St. Lawrence and 45 wins at Northland College.
"I'm proud of the way our team competed today," said head coach
Shelly Roiger. "We pulled out three close sets with Hamilton and showed good composure down the stretch.Our offensive balance carried our offense during the Alfred match and I feel like our defense continues to get better each set. We definitely need to focus on increasing the pace of our offense, that along with our serving game will be areas of focus this week."
Match 1 vs. Hamilton College (St. Lawrence 3, Hamilton 0)
In the Saints third match of the weekend, St. Lawrence swept the Continentals after three sets by scores of 25-20, 28-26 and 26-24.
Once again, first year
Natalie Piper led the Saints with double-digit kills and digs recording 13 and 10, respectively, while
Grace Kelly added 10 and
Mac Barnes tallied eight for the Scarlet and Brown.
Maddy Bishop posted a team-high 19 assists and two service aces, while
Marissa Parker and
Julia Wagner each recorded four blocks.
Hamilton was led by Emma Parkhurst with eight kills and 15 assists, while Nikki Matsuoka recorded 14 digs and Kendall Boxe and Giuliana Rankin each added two blocks.
St. Lawrence topped the Continentals in kills (45-31), aces (7-2), blocks (6-3) and digs (43-26).Â
Match 2 vs. Alfred University (St. Lawrence 3, Alfred 0)
In their final match of the weekend, the Saints claimed another three-set victory topping Alfred by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-13.
Kelly led the Saints against the Saxons with 10 kills, while Piper and
Amanda Teppo each recorded six.
Ally Good and Bishop combined for 25 assists, while Good and
Jenna Britton each added seven digs for the Saints and Kelly recorded two solo blocks.
Alfred was led by Amber Smith with nine kills, while Amanda Burns assisted on 20 plays and Elisabeth Estep added 14 digs.Â

The Saints will hit the road for the second weekend in a row as they head to the Oswego State Invitational to face off against Elmira College on Friday, September 14, and Utica and Oswego State on Saturday, September 15.
