The No. 22 St. Lawrence University men's soccer team outshot the Bombers 19-16, but battled Ithaca to a 0-0 after two overtimes on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
Stephen Dorney,
Tapshak Augustine,
Brendan McNamee and
Charlton Kelly all recorded three shots for the Saints, while Augustine and McNamee recorded the Saints two shots on goal.
Dorney and Augustine sent two headers just wide of the net in the first half of play.
The Scarlet and Brown, continued to pressure the Bombers' defense and had a number of solid chances to score, peppering ten shots during the second half of the game.
In the 61st minute,
Jethro Dede sent a shot to the left of the net and moments later McNamee put the Saints first shot on goal, which was scooped up by Max Lichtenstein.
Kelly,
Conor Higgins and McNamee all attempted to break the Ithaca defense late in the second half, but all four shots were blocked in the 84th minute of play.
St. Lawrence was able to get four shots off in overtime, while the Bombers challenged the Saints with three, but both remained scoreless after 110 minutes of play.
"It was a top Liberty League battle between two undefeated teams in the league," said head coach
Mike Toshack. "Ithaca is a well-coached team that was very resilient and tough to break down. However, we had chances to win the game in regulation and during overtime and I was proud of how the team kept going after the three points."
Tom Dillmann, Nate Mansfield and Thomas Pierce each tallied one shot on goal for the Bombers.
Saints' goalkeeper
Mike Smith made three saves in goal, while Lichtenstein recorded two saves for the Bombers.
With the tie, the Saints moved to 5-1-2 on the season and remain undefeated in league play at 2-0-1, while Ithaca moved to 6-0-3 and 0-0-2.
St. Lawrence will travel to Troy, New York for a mid-week matchup against the Engineers on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m.
