Angelina Carney was 5-for-7 at plate to lead the St. Lawrence University softball team to a split with Clarkson, falling in the first game 2-0 before finishing the season with a 7-2 win over the Golden Knights in a Liberty League doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Potsdam.
The Saints finish the season 13-17 overall and 5-9 in Liberty League play.
McKailey Lyndaker pitched five shutout innings in a start and a relief appearance for the Saints, allowing just three hits and one walk.
Game 1: Clarkson 2, St. Lawrence 0
Clarkson scored the only two runs of the game in the third inning, with Hannah Bowen hitting an RBI single and Summer Lancette following with a run-scoring double.
St. Lawrence's pitching staff held Clarkson to just four hits and didn't walk a batter, with
Caroline Young taking the loss with two runs allowed on three hits. Lyndaker pitched the final three innings in relief, allowing just one hit.
Carney went 2-for-3 for the Saints in the opener.
Game 2: St. Lawrence 7, Clarkson 2
Deanna Sullivan went 4-for-4 with a triple and two doubles as the Saints pounded out 16 hits in their final game of the season.Â
Carney and
Skylar Hein hit RBI doubles to give the Saints a 2-0 lead in the third inning, and Sullivan's triple scored a run in the fourth.Â
Lancette hit an RBI double to right center in the fifth, and Kyrstin Messier followed with an RBI groundout to cut the lead to one, but Young shut the door over the final 2.2 innings to earn her first save of the season.
The Saints added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Carney scored Sullivan with a ground ball through the left side and Hein hit an RBI double to left center. Pinch runner
Meghan Hyatt scored from third after a pickoff throw by the catcher that sailed into left field, and
Mylea Mann added an RBI infield single.
Carney, Hein and Mann were all 3-for-4 for the Saints.Â
Danielle Whitham was 2-for-3 for Clarkson, while Lancette went 2-for-4.Â
Lyndaker allowed two hits and a walk in two innings, continuing on her success from the opener, before yielding to
Allie Courtwright in the third. Courtwright was awarded the win, allowing two runs on three hits with one walk in 2.1 innings.Â
Leah Allen took the loss, allowing three runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Maggie Stark started the seventh inning, allowing four runs on five hits before Allen reentered to get the final two outs of the game.
