Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Dow Eclipses 100th Career Goal Milestone; No. 19 Saints Secure Home First-Round Game

Senior captain Jordan Dow netted a hat trick and recorded his 100th-career goal with his second goal of the game to lead the No. 19 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over the No. 17 Rensselaer Engineers in the regular-season finale on Wednesday afternoon in Troy, New York.

Along with Dow, Mike Donnelly also recorded three goals, while Conor Caffrey and Jack Hennessey each added two. Harrison Koch tallied one goal for the Scarlet and Brown, while Evan Doodian caused one turnover and picked up a team-best six ground balls for the Saints, who finished with a 32-30 edge in ground balls and a 37-33 advantage in shots.

The Engineers took an early 2-0 lead over the Saints, just over six minutes into the first quarter with goals from Matthew Gilman and Lacus Bastarache.  Then, Zach Lukas fed Gilman to extend the Engineers' lead to three with 6:05 to play, while Cliff Kigar pushed the lead to 4-0 just over three minutes later.

Zachary Ettinghausen fed Caffrey for the Saints first goal of the game with 1:55 to play in the first frame and Dow netted his first of the game to close the gap to two goals with nine seconds left in the quarter.

Lukas pushed the Engineers' lead back to three goals to open scoring in the second quarter at 13:55. Donnelly responded for the Saints off the pass from Caffrey about four minutes later.

After trading goals, Dow scored his 100th-career goal for the Scarlet and Brown to bring the game back within two with 6:32 to play in the second quarter. Dow posted back-to-back goals with an unassisted tally three minutes later and Koch tallied his tenth goal of the season to tie the game, 6-6, 17 seconds before halftime.

Caffrey and Donnelly both netted their second goals of the game to put the Saints up 8-6. JT Kelly brought the Engineers back within one, but Hennessey drove in from the left side and scored his seventh goal of the season to give the Saints back their two-goal advantage with 4:04 to play.

Donnelly successfully completed the hat trick with a break-away goal to put the Saints up 10-7. Heading into the final quarter, Hennessey extended St. Lawrence's lead to four with 13:14 remaining.

"A terrific team win to get off the bus and battle consistently for 60 minutes," said head coach Mike Mahoney '93. "So many guys stepped up at important times and got rewarded for their efforts."

Kelly tallied two straight in a rally attempt for the Engineers but Saints' goalkeeper Matty Corbelle came up big for St. Lawrence with a huge save with 36 seconds to play to help secure a win for the Saints.

Corbelle finished with 11 saves, including three in each of the final three quarters, to improve to 2-0 on the season.  Kelly scored three times in the loss and Lukas finished with a goal and three assists. Oliver Kaija won 15-of-23 faceoffs with eight groundballs and Parker Smith stopped 13 shots in goal.
