No. 19 Saints Down SUNY Potsdam 18-2

Seniors Conor Caffrey and Cal Hynson each recorded hat tricks, and 10 different Saints scored at least one goal to lead the No. 19 St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team to an 18-2 non-conference win over SUNY Potsdam on a snowy Tuesday night at Hall-Leet Stadium.

Caffrey led the Saints with three goals and two assists for five points, while Hynson netted three goals for a season high. Jordan Dow, Sam Martin, Dan Robinson and Charlie Gallop all tallied two goals, while Alex Dunn, Brian Cunningham, Zachary Ettinghausen and Jack Hennessey all added one. Dow, Ettinghausen and Mike Donnelly all recorded two assists, while Ettinghausen picked up a team-best five ground balls, caused two turnovers and went a perfect 6-for-6 in the faceoff circle. Alec Georgiadis caused a team-high three turnovers for the Scarlet and Brown.

Caffrey kicked off scoring for the Saints with three straight goals accumulating his 34th, 35th and 36th goals on the season all in the first quarter of play, with assists from Ettinghausen, Donnelly and Jack Suominen.

Dunn drove in from the left hand side and netted a low shot past SUNY Potsdam goalkeeper Zach Sheridan for his third goal of the season. Caffrey then found Martin from behind the goal to put the Saints up 5-0 after the first frame.

Eric Soderquist fed Lukas Baildon to put the Bears on the board at the 11:46 mark of the second quarter, but the Saints tallied the next 10 goals to build a 15-1 lead over the Bears by the end of the third quarter.

Nick Orsini ended the Saints 10-goal run with the Bears' second and final goal of the game with 13:43 to play in the fourth quarter.

Robinson scored his third of the season and Hynson ended the game with back-to-back tallies for the Saints.

Josh Huiatt picked up a team-high five ground balls, while Colby Chapman picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers for SUNY Potsdam.  



Senior goalkeeper Matty Corbelle picked up his first career win on his first start of the season and recorded seven saves between the pipes for the Saints. Zach Sheridan and Sean Cole combined for 12 saves for the Bears.

St. Lawrence outshot the Bears 51-19 and held a 30-9 shot on goal advantage. The Saints picked up 31 ground balls to the Bears' 24 and held a slight 13-11 advantage in the faceoff circle.

Up Next – The Saints will host No. 1 RIT on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. Saturday's matchup will serve as senior day for the Class of 2018.
