Frederick Double-Doubles; Saints Post 54-45 Win Over Golden Knights

Katie Frederick posted her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and a season-high 19 rebounds to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 54-45 win over Clarkson University in Liberty League action on Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

Frederick, who shot 5-for-7 from the floor, also added three assists and one block in the win, while Dylan Watkiss added nine points and Chelsea Van Tassel recorded eight and the two combined for five rebounds and three steals.

After a slow start, the Saints posted a 9-0 run to take a 13-6 lead after the first ten minutes of play. The Golden Knights pushed back in the second quarter, but the Saints pushed forward, extending their lead into the double-digits with a 3-pointer from Ava McCann with less than two minutes until halftime.

The Scarlet and Brown made quick work in the third, outshooting Clarkson 18-8 to take a 43-21 lead with 10 minutes to play and despite being outshot 24-11 in the fourth, the Saints came away with their second Liberty League win of the season.

"We showed excellent growth tonight in our game," said head coach Dan Roiger. "We had outstanding defensive game plan execution, the team really knocked it out of the park.  On offense we started looking at our secondary reads and making extra passes, especially in the second half. They are getting it, and it is fun to see the growth."

"Dylan and others did a great job on Clarkson's Assimon tonight," Roiger continued. "She is a really good shooter and they covered her well and gave her only a couple good looks at the basket. Katie Frederick played her best game of the year. She was a rebounding machine and finished with composure around the rim. We had a lot of contributions – Caroline with a nice shooting night and Meghan with 10 rebounds. Everyone contributed with plays, it was a great team effort. I'm very proud of the way this team keeps battling."

Clarkson was led by Molly Stewart with 15 points and five rebounds, shooting 5-for-13 from the floor and 2-for-6 from the arc. Stewart also posted a team-best six steals, while Emily Zeyak scored 13 points for the Golden Knights.

With the win, the Saints improved to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while Clarkson fell to 2-4 and 1-2.

St. Lawrence will make a short trip to SUNY Canton on December 14 for a 6 p.m. game before heading home for Christmas Break.
