Naclerio Posts Double-Double; Saints Fall to Scranton, 82-68

Riley Naclerio posted his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds, but the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team fell to the University of Scranton Royals, 82-68, in the Hilton Scranton Invitational championship game on Sunday afternoon in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Ben Crawford, who shot 7-for-10 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the line, posted a team best 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Luke Hicks and Dom DeRegis each totaled 12 points and combined for five rebounds.

After a back-and-forth battle from the start, the Saints took a 16-12 lead on a jump shot from Hicks, but the Royals quickly regained control on a fast-break layup from Jackson Danzig.

A 3-pointer from DeRegis gave the Saints the lead (21-17) once again just over halfway through the first frame. Ben Bosland would knot the game at 27 down the stretch and the Royals carried a six-point advantage into halftime, capped by another layup from Bosland.

After the break, Logan Bailey extended the Royals lead to seven and again to 12 on the fast break with 16:17 to play in the second half.

The Scarlet and Brown continued to apply pressure and brought the game back within five points with a layup from Chris Miner and continued to push closer after Hicks went 2-for-2 from the line with just over nine minutes remaining.

From there, the Royals fought back, recreating their double-digit lead with 3:24 to play and carrying it through until the clock wound down for the win.

Matthew Mancuso led the Royals with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Kyle DeVerna and Bailey recorded 18 and 15, respectively. Bosland closed out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Mancuso, Bailey and Bosland all grabbed three steals each.

St. Lawrence improved to shoot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and totaled 17 second-chance points, 22 points off turnovers and 17 points off the bench. The Royals combined to shoot 52.5 percent from the floor and recorded 31 points off turnovers.

Mancuso earned tournament MVP honors and Crawford earned a spot on the Hilton Scranton Invitational All-Tournament team.

With the loss, the Saints fell to 1-2 on the season, while the University of Scranton improved to 3-0.

St. Lawrence will host SUNY Canton in its home opener on Tuesday, November 20 at 2 p.m., before heading home for Thanksgiving break.
