The 11th-ranked Herons scored two first-half goals to lead William Smith to a 2-0 win over the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team, closing the regular season for the Saints on Saturday afternoon in Geneva, New York.
Emilie Sauvayre put the Herons on the board with a shot from the left hand side in the 29th minute of play for her third goal of the season.
Just about six minutes later, Julia Keogh scored her fifth of the season with a turn-around shot from Meghan McKenna.
First-year
Isabel Silvia led the Saints with two shots on goal.
"The simple fact of the matter is that we decided to sit back and defend the entire first half," said head coach
Sinead McSharry. "That was neither on the script nor a good idea. Hence, the two goals. Finally, we decided to have fun and play but it was all just a little too late. You can't pick and choose when you want to play when you're competing at this level."
Â
Sauvayre and Keogh led the Herons with a goal each, while McKenna and Megan Barwick each added an assist. Keogh led William Smith with five shots on goal.

Saints' goalkeeper
Samantha Allen finished with six saves for the Scarlet and Brown, while Veronica Romines made two saves for the Herons.
Â
The Herons outshot the Saints 19-3 and held an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Â
With the loss, St. Lawrence fell to 9-2-4 on the season and 4-2-3 in Liberty League play, while William Smith improved to 12-3-0 and 8-1-0.
The Saints will host Skidmore in a first-round game on Tuesday, October 30. Game time will be announced when made available.Â
